Originally bred in the mid
19th century in the rugged countryside of
Yorkshire, England, the Yorkie was used to weed out mice and
other vermin as well as take on specific hunting tasks. At the
beginning of the 20th century, the Yorkie was
introduced to America and the breed became very popular and
still remains that way today. |
|
Even though the Yorkie is
called a Yorkshire Terrier, it is not really a Terrier at all.
It is of the Toy Breed group. Yorkies generally weigh 4-7 lbs.
and have a height of 8-9 inches. At birth and through puppy
hood, Yorkies have a black and brown coat which turns to a
blue and tan as they mature into adult dogs.

|
The Yorkies’ temperament
is very friendly and outgoing toward people with a high energy
level and are very loyal and attentive toward their owner. As
quick learners, they are easy to train and very playful with
children. |
